“Nakakatuwa kasi pati ba naman dito nanalo pa ako? I mean proud na pati ako… nakasali pa,” said Gina Pareño for winning the best supporting actress award for her performance in the movie “Rendevouz” at the recently concluded 2019 Singkuwento International Film Festival Manila Philippines (SIFFMP) awards ceremony.
“Although ang bida naming si Tonz Are, gusto ko sumikat s’ya. Hindi lang sya mabait, masigasig, masipag at natural lahat sa kanya,” added Gina shortly after the awards show held at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) theater in Intramuros, Manila.
Tonz eventually bagged the best supporting actor honor.
Written and directed by Marvin Gabas, “Rendezvous” is about a water entity named “balud,” a merman, who falls in love with a human girl, Mira.
Pareño started her career in the 1960s as bit actress in several films. She later on became one of the artists of Sampaguita Pictures. In 2006, she gained international recognition for her role in “Kubrador” (The Bet Collector), wherein she won the best actress award at the Osian’s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema and at the Brussels International Independent Film Festival.
Pareño also won the Metro Manila Film Festival award (MMFF) for best supporting actress in the movie “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” and then later on, received accolades for the same film and category at the FAMAS Awards, as well as the Film Academy of the Philippines Awards on the same year.
